Everyone knows that college costs are going up. This article I found, did not offer anything really new there! The author offers up one point that I thought was very important to reinforce…. work ethic. Sounds like a four letter word I know but let’s be real. Anything worth doing is worth doing well and sitting back and hoping Obama is going to fix everything….well you know what I mean.
The author suggest
“I think hard work can offset the economic troubles,” said Schneider. “If you work hard to get good grades and stay involved, you’re bound to get some scholarships.”
I really agree with the author on this point because it goes back to my point about positioning our children for a college. I must sound like a broken record but colleges are looking for their model student. Remember the college defines for themselves who they consider ideal. If our children don’t get out there and do something they will not get the big money from these universities. I see a lot of award letters…and when I see an award letter with only student loans and PLUS loans, the school is saying; ya we’ll take you but it’s on you to pay our fees. We are not going to help you out.
My mom used to kick me out of the house to go and play outside. The benefits to me were having fun and getting some exercise (maybe she was just trying to tire me out:) Get your kids to go out today and work at something that will help them be positioned for the “College money”. They might grumble right now, but in the long run they will thank you. The earlier they start the less stressful this will be on both of you!

BTW, here is start of the article……
It’s plastered all over the headlines everywhere you look. You can’t turn on FOX News, CNN or MSNBC without seeing the ticker displaying it over and over again: the economy is in trouble, and the problem is seeping into the realm of higher education. Can American adolescents afford to go to college anymore?Tuition hikes are happening everywhere, from debt-stricken California all the way back …
