My bracket prediction of the final four and March Madness.

by College Funding on April 5, 2009

I’ve been listening for since the NCAA finals began to the “experts” on who is going to win the NCAA championship.  Advancing deeper into through the finals is a big deal for a university.  Think about how much FREE media coverage the schools receive?  Anyway, I decided to create my own college bracket to predict the actual winner of the NCAA men’s basketball championship.  Let’s see who is right:)

Most “experts” are looking at the skills of the players and strategy of the coaches when they make predicitons.  I’m going to look at the historical tuition discount the colleges offer for my prediction of the winner.  I know I’ll have an easier job because I’m going to only look at the final four.   I’m not cheating, but I just thought of this idea:)

I live and grew up in Michigan so I really want MSU to win the championship but based on the tuition discount each university gives, UNC is the clear winner.   Now you MSU fans, please don’t blow up my email:)

So what is a tuition discount?  As I said earlier, schools historically give out a certain amount of money.  This is a very important statistic because it can mean a big difference in how much money that comes out of your pocket to pay for college.   Parents should guide their children to universities that historically give our more tuition discount.  As you go through your college planning, research each university your child is thinking about attending.   Let’s look at an example.  In the bracket below there is a 74% next to MSU.  This means that MSU meets 74% of a families need.  On the other hand UNC meets 100% of a families need.   You do the math:)
